Tiger Bureaucrat
A downloadable game
We all know it's fun to rain flying death on an evil dictator's military base, but have you ever considered the poor soul who has to manage said base's finances? You haven't? Well, why don't you download this game and get some new perspective.
Experience what it's like on the other side of a shmup; build defenses, grasp for income, and try to fulfill your megalomaniac boss' wild demands. When gallant heroes arrive like clockwork at the end of every month to wreck your stuff, will you fight back or will you hide in a corner and hope that they don't blow up anything too important?
Remember: it's not your fault that the wrath of the free world is welled up at your doorstep, but it is your responsibility to pick up the pieces when the flames have subsided.
Controls
When the game starts, you will select an option from the sidebar on the right side of the screen. Call this "Normal" mode. The controls are:
- UP/DOWN: Move the cursor
- A: Toggle details view for selected object
- B: Confirm. Depending on what you have selected, this might:
- Engage "Place a Building" mode
- Buy a wave of planes
- Engage "Delete a Building" mode
- End the month
- Fail to do anything if you don't have enough money for your selected option
- C: Toggle the sidebar between showing "what do things cost" and "how many of this thing do I have"
- START: Shortcut to end the month
In "Place a Building" or "Delete a Building" mode:
- UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT: Move cursor
- B: Attempt to place or delete a building
- A/C: Return to normal mode
During the "Shmup" mode
- UP/DOWN move the cursor
- LEFT/RIGHT changes entry point for rockets and single-plane formations
- B: Send a wave of the selected type of craft
- If you have an obnoxious sibling who wants to ruin your day, they can pilot the enemy plane with controller 2.
Trust me, it's not as complicated as it sounds. Just try it out.
Hints
- If you go into debt, you lose.
- If you end a month without a runway, you lose.
- The number of waves of planes you have is limited by the number of hangers. Below the hanger icon on the left sidebar, you can see "[number of waves you have]/[hanger capacity]".
- You may only build a certain number of buildings per month. Below the crane icon in the left sidebar, you can see "[number of buildings built this month]/[number of buildings you can build]". Increase the number of buildings you can build per month by building cranes.
- If you launch a wave of planes, even if they all survive, you will have to rehire them next month. You are given a financial credit for every surviving plane at the end of the round.
- Be sure to use the "A" button in Normal mode to read what everything does.
Technical:
This is a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive-compatible rom. It should work on real hardware using a flash cart or in emulation. I recommend Genesis Plus GX.
Asset sources are available in the "attribution.md" file.
